Discovering Forgotten History on Alabama’s Backroads

There I was, driving through the most isolated backroads of Alabama, when something unusual caught my eye. At first, it was a broken-down house—one of those places you don’t dare step into because your weight might be the final push that brings it all crashing down. But that wasn’t the real discovery.

Out back, nestled deep in the trees, were two Ford buses from the 1930s. Time had taken its toll, with both buses rusted out and sunken into the earth. These once-glorious multi-person transport vehicles, now abandoned, seemed to be resting in their woodsy grave. It was a scene both sad and awe-inspiring—the grandeur of the past fading into the wilderness.
